Replacement lenses are a great option if your prescription has changed and you just need new lenses installed in your frames -- just send them to us. Or maybe you scratched your lenses or perhaps you have a few pairs of eyeglasses in a drawer collecting dust and you need new lenses for them. Our eyeglass lens replacement service  could save you a bundle of money and time. Send us your eyeglasses and we can replace the old lenses and install new lenses for you.

There are some restrictions, however, so read more about how our service works to see if we can help you. 

How does it work?

If you send us a frame that contains lenses, we can “read” the prescription and pupillary distance information contained in the lenses. Then we can install new lenses in the frame you send us. Multifocal lenses have an additional measurement that single vision lenses do not—the “seg height”. The “seg height” varies from frame to frame, so we can copy and install new multifocal lenses for you only in the frames that you send us. For any other frame, you will need a fitting from an optical professional, who will determine the appropriate “seg height” for the type of multifocal lens you want in that frame.

If you send us frames with multifocal lenses, we can make single vision or multifocal lenses for you in the frames that you send us. We can also make single vision lenses for you in any frame (new or old). If you send us frames with single vision lenses (or with plano lenses, or without any lenses at all), we can only make single vision lenses for you. In either case, we can copy the lens exactly, or (if you provide us with an updated prescription) we can install new lenses with your updated prescription.

If you have frames without lenses...

If you send us frames without lenses, we can only make single vision lenses for you. To make single vision lenses we will need your full prescription information including your pupillary distance measurement. For additional information, read the section below entitled “Why can’t eyeglasses.com supply multifocal lenses in some cases”.

If you have frames with single vision lenses, and you want single vision lenses installed...

If you send us frames with single vision lenses, we can copy the lenses and you do not need to send us any prescription or pupillary distance information. Or, you can send us updated prescription information and we can make lenses with the new prescription.

If you have frames with single vision lenses, and you want progressive, bifocal or trifocal lenses installed...

If you send us frames with single vision lenses, we will be unable to determine the correct “seg height” for the lines in progressive, bifocal or trifocal lenses. So, we cannot make these kind of lenses for you in this case. For additional information, read the section below entitled “Why can’t eyeglasses.com supply multifocal lenses in some cases.”

If you have frames with multifocal lenses, and you want the lenses copied and replaced...

If you send us frames with multifocal lenses, we can copy the lenses and you do not need to send us any prescription or pupillary distance information. Or, you can send us updated prescription information and we can make lenses with the new prescription.

If you have frames with multifocal lenses, and your prescription has changed and you need new lenses...

If you send us frames with multifocal lenses and your new prescription information, we can make new lenses for you. We can copy the “seg height” measurement from your old lenses and use it to install your new lenses. We can then use your updated prescription information to make the new lenses.

If you have frames with multifocal lenses, and you want single vision lenses...

If you send us frames with multifocal lenses, we can make single vision lenses for you. We can copy the prescription and pupillary distance measurement information from your old lenses, and use them to make new single vision lenses so you do not need to send us your prescription. Or if your prescription has changed, you can send us your new prescription information and we can make single vision lenses for you with the new prescription.

Why can’t eyeglasses.com supply multifocal lenses in some cases?

Multifocal lenses all have horizontal lines (visible or invisible). In order to make the eyeglasses correctly, an optician needs to determine the perfect spot for these lines to be. In order to do that, the optician needs to first fit the eyeglasses on your head properly, and then mark the “seg” height. The seg height is the vertical distance from the bottom of the lens up to a point on the lens that is even with the wearer’s lower eye lid (for bifocals), or the wearer’s pupil (for progressive or trifocal lenses).

On a new pair of glasses, the optician will use a felt-tipped black pen to mark the spot on the frame’s demo lenses. The optician then measures the distance in millimeters, and writes the distance down on the order form to be sent to the lens laboratory. Then he installs the lenses using that seg height and your prescription. Internet stores are not able to measure the seg height properly. Any internet optical service installing multifocals in new frames must guess at the seg height.

Can I use my vision insurance plan for replacement lenses?

The Vision Solution Store does not accept vision insurance plans, but in many cases you can submit our itemized bill for reimbursement—contact your insurance company for details. Optical retailers often inflate their frame and lens prices in order to compensate for the vision insurance plans that their customers use. Corporations provide vision insurance in the mistaken belief that it lowers costs for employees, when in fact it serves to increase prices. eyeglasses.com has not inflated its prices because it does not accept vision insurance plans. We encourage customers to compare our prices, selection, and service against local optical retailers.

We does have a discount plan that is available to corporations and other large entities, to be offered as an employee benefit. If you think your company would benefit by this plan, please ask the administrator in your human resources department to contact us for more details.

Our replacement lens service is ideal for large corporations that are looking to add another benefit to their employees’ benefit programs. Other types of organizations like non-profits, schools, aide organizations, organizations serving the elderly, and others could also benefit from our low prices and convenient delivery. We do not supply safety lenses.

Who makes lenses for eyeglasses.com?

eyeglasses.com sells lenses made by the world’s best lens companies, including Corning, Essilor, Hoya, KBco, Pentax, Rodenstock, , Seiko, Specialty Lens Co, and Zeiss. Essilor is the world’s largest lens manufacturer, and the maker of Varilux® and Transitions® lenses. Pentax, Hoya, KBco, and Specialty Lens make some of our specialty lens offerings. We outsource all of our lens installation services to a Varilux-certified lens laboratory.

Terms of Service

After we have received and evaluated your frames and determined that they are in good condition, we look at your order and if we have any questions about the order we will email you. Once the order is ready to process, we will charge your credit card and then begin the lens work. However, you sending us your frames does not obligate us to provide lens service for you.

Occasionally frames do become damaged or break during the lens installation process. If we damage or break your frame while installing a lens we will give you a 50% discount on the purchase of another frame at eyeglasses.com.

Most lens work takes three business days beginning when we have the complete order. If your frame has a “rimless” design, we charge an additional $35 for mounting and edging, and this service normally requires an additional three days of processing time. In some cases, additional fees may apply for specialty lens work or high prescription lenses which is not described in our lens service price list. If special charges do apply, we will obtain your approval prior to doing any service.

For copied lenses, we will measure the pupillary distance of the lenses to be copied and use that measurement in the new lenses. If the pupillary distance measurement issued on the eye doctor’s prescription is different from the pupillary distance measurement contained in your old lenses, it is our practice to use the pupillary distance measurement contained in the lenses to be copied. We will only use the prescription’s pupillary distance measurement if the customer specifically requests it.

If your prescription is stronger than +/-5.00, you should read this

In order to make your eyeglasses correctly, we must have an accurate pupillary distance (PD) value. Your PD can only be measured accurately by an optician. We also must have an accurate prescription for you, issued by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. If your prescription was issued more than two years ago, we urge you to revisit your eye doctor to have a new prescription written.

Your new lenses will only work for you if your eyeglasses are positioned directly in front of your eyes. For example, we could make lenses perfectly for you, but you would not be able to see well through them unless your eyeglasses are positioned correctly directly in front of your eyes. Only an optician can position your eyeglasses properly to ensure that you are looking through the center of the lenses. We require that you have an optician provide this fitting when you receive your eyeglasses from eyeglasses.com. We work with optical Associates around the country who provide our customers with free fittings. However, if there is no associate in your area, you still must get a pupillary distance measurement and fitting from a local optical provider.

You may experience a feeling of disorientation while you adjust to your new glasses, or until you have them fitted by an optical professional in your area. You may not be able to see well with your new eyeglasses if:

You need a slight fitting adjustment by an optician
Your prescription has changed recently, and your eyes need to adjust to the new lens
You gave us an inaccurate pupillary distance measurement, measured by an optical professional
Your eye doctor gave you the wrong prescription (sometimes they do make mistakes!)
eyeglasses.com guarantees to make your lenses exactly to the specifications that you provide. However, we cannot guarantee that the lenses we make for you will work for you. If you would like to return your eyeglasses for a refund within 30 days of your purchase date, we will give you full credit for your frames, and store credit for the value of the lenses. If we made a mistake on your lenses, we will give you full credit for the lenses as well.

What is the eyeglasses.com replacement lens service guarantee and return policy?
We only sell lenses made by the world’s best lens makers. We do not sell “generic” lenses. eyeglasses.com only provides top-quality lens service. We guarantee that our lens work will be done perfectly, and exactly to your specifications. If we do not make the lenses perfectly, we will remake the lenses at no cost to you if you return them within 30 days of when you receive them. However, we cannot warrantee the scratch-resistant coating, and cannot guarantee against scratches in the lens.

What are the tax and shipping charges?
Our free shipping option is UPS ground or Federal Express Ground. For military addresses and P.O. boxes, we use USPS. Shipping from Elmsford, New York can take as little as one day in the Northeast, or up to as many as seven business days to the West Coast. You can purchase next day and second day shipping service for an additional fee.. There is no sales tax on prescription lens services.

How do I track my order?
When we have received and evaluated your order, you will receive an email. Once we are ready to proceed with your order, you will receive an order confirmation email with your order number. When we ship your order back to you, you will get another email with the tracking number.
