Lillian McKim was born in New York City in the 1930s and she was an original in every sense of the word. After she attended Miss Porter's school with her good friend and future first lady Jacqueline Kennedy she went to Kentucky to go to work for the Frontier Nurses Service. She shunned all the debuts and soirees of New York City. She was riding donkeys on the frontier in Kentucky! When she fell in love with Peter Pulitzer instead of having a big wedding celebration they decided to elope. After they eloped there was no wedding celebration, instead they moved to Palm Beach Florida. Lilly opened up a juice stand as a side business. Her husband Peter had some orange groves in South Florida and Lily started selling boxes of oranges to all the kitchen staffs of Palm Beach.
