Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses were created by Tommy, who founded the company bearing his name in 1985, and the company has grown exponentially ever since. Tommy Hilfiger was born in 1951 in upstate New York, and he was one of the founders of a local upstate chain of clothing and record stores in the 1970s. In an effort to broaden his horizons and to give vent to his creative vision, in the early 1980s he began to design a line of preppy sportswear. This new line was very popular and he quickly expanded it to include a men’s line, and then a women’s line, followed by perfumes. The company grew exponentially during this period and in 1992 the company went public, bringing in more capital to develop a full line of accessories including Tommy Hilfiger eyeglasses frames.
Although fashion was his main passion and driving force, Tommy Hilfiger enjoys the public eye and has been involved in many different types of media. He has written several books, including “All American: A Style Book,” written in 1997; “Rock Style: A Book of Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, Punk, Funk and the Fashions That Give Looks to Those Sounds”, written in 2000; “New England Style”, written in 2003; “New England: Icons, Influences, and Inspirations from the American Northeast,” written in 2004; and “Iconic America: A Roller-Coaster Ride through the Eye-Popping Panorama of American Pop Culture,” written in 2007.
